Wednesday 12th October 2011 - Coffee on Kareela

Coffee on Kareela is a small cafe run as an extension from St Luke's and it's future is in doubt. We have been supporters of the cafe since it started. I cant understand how it could possibly close. Apparently it is due lack of volunteer support staff. Financially the cafe is doing fine. It is purely a staffing problem. I guess the cafe needs to be more "in your face". In other words, it need to have a higher profile within the church. Maybe we need a big fat notice board at the church devoted to things happening at the cafe and the needs that the cafe has.
For my family we are at the cafe ever week and many times, a couple of times each week. We have made so many friends, new friends, people we had not seen outside the cafe and probably never have met if it had not been for the cafe.
Cathy was 12 months old when the cafe started. The cafe was 2 years old when our Timothy was born. It has been a large part of our family.
