Wednesday 3rd January 2012 pm - Ron Fiegert

FIEGERT (Ronald James):
30.1.1924 - 26.11.2011 Brother to Allen, Avis and Thelma (all dec).
Softly in the shadows, there came a gentle call, with farewells left unspoken, you quietly left us all.

A good friend. I first met Ron in January of 1970. At that time he worked for Lynford Motors, Osborne Park.  I was a fresh faced 18 year old who thought himself 10 foot tall and bullet proof with a mouth to match. Ron was a gentle man who did not use foul language. I remember working with him. One day he quietly, but not in any way condemning, asked me if it was necessary to cuss so much. There wasn't a hint of malice in his tone; it was a simple question. And the way it was asked made a profound influence on me. I watched Ron over the following days. He was quiet, gentle and always eager to help. He was mostly on his own. There was something different about him.
What made him "tick" was Christ. I found that he wasn't a "religious" man. He was faithful, yes, but not religious. He lived his faith, or more importantly, his Faith lived him. For Ron to live was Christ and to die to self was gain. He relied upon Christ for his existence. Nothing else mattered but Christ. His verse was Galatians 2:20. He had died and the life he now lived he lived by faith in the Son of God who lived in him. If you were to ask him, he would say "faithful is He who lives in you who will also do it".
What else do I know about Ron? He farmed in the southern community of Kataning in West Australia. He was saved one night in a Baptist Church. His salvation was instant and miraculous. He walked into the service a drinker and walked out not being able to drink. There was no gradual change in his life style. It was instant. He was converted in the true sense of the word. When Christ got hold of him Christ did all that was necessary on the spot. Ron would go on to study at the Perth Bible Institute and to care for a Mrs Cummings. Mrs Cummings suffered from dementia and Ron became her full time carer. They lived in Harborne Street Wembley until Mrs Cummings passed to be with Christ.
Theoretically Ron was fundamentalist and pre-millennial. He believed that Christ would return for His church at any time and that it would be sooner rather than later. he believed in the 7 year Tribulation with the church to be raptured before that time. He believed that Christ would return to judge and reign over the earth for a thousand years.
As a result of this man's testimony I was to find Christ as my Lord and Saviour also. I will always be greatful to Christ for letting our paths cross.
Enough.... Till next time.....
