Thursday 13th December 2007 Leviticus 5

Isn't she fantastic. That's my eldest. That picture was done at playgroup a while ago. But, well you know how it goes. Dad's are allowed to brag. And now she has decided to copy Mum. We will have to channel that so she learns to do it right. The latest was washing powder. She likes to help with the washing and some how got to the powder without Mum knowing. There was powder everywhere. Never mind. We just need to be more vigilant. I don't want her to be discouraged from helping. So we will watch.
Today's Bible reading is Leviticus 5.
Now we must think side ways. I am going to give a clue to what I mean then leave it up to the reader to think on it and let God speak to you direct. Now we are into law giving and direct. God says, do this and you have sinned and are guilty. Now I can look at this in two ways. I can accept what he says blindly and say sorry each time. Or I can say, why did God set that standard. There must be a reason why God has made that law. Let me take an obvious law. Verse 2. Touch unclean things, like for example, a dead animal. One doesn't need a law degree to work that one out. Touch it and you may become seriously ill. So, that makes perfect sense. Then God makes provision in case we should accidentally touch something dead. Now if we apply that principle to most of the law we find that God is logical and isn't just making a do and don't list just to make things hard for us.
The second thing I like is in relation to guilt. God relieves our guilt by forgiving us when we confess. It is like a safety valve to stop us getting discouraged. Another thing. look at verse 7. If I can't afford a lamb. God is love and provides a way. Just incidentally, what is the Christians bar of soap? Have a look at 1 John 1:9. Not an excuse to keep doing what we know not to do. But a the way to put right what we put wrong.
