Friday 14th December 2007 Leviticus 6

Today's Bible reading from St Luke's is Leviticus chapter 6.
Very interesting one today. I did hear on the grape vine that Israel had no police force. I rather liked the restitution thing found in verses 2-5. Restitution in full plus 20%. Not a bad idea at all. Steal something or lies about something, the value of the item plus 20%.
Now I don't quite understand verses 8-13. There would be a good reason, apart from the fact that God has commanded it. I guess someone who understands food and food preparation would know the reason why. Maybe they could comment or email me. I am curious. Like I said before, God doesn't command anything without there being a very good logical reason. We don't always understand it but that doesn't alter it.
Leaven, yeast. This is in verse 16. What is leaven or yeast. Well, yeast is a rising agent used in cooking breads. It causes bread to puff up. It is a reminder to us not to become puffed up with pride or whatever.
That will do for now.
