This time I am soliciting your comments and opinions.
I will post herein a series of posts I wrote in St Luke's Forum.
This is my entry for Friday September 14 on 2 Samuel 6:
Quote: As I read this chapter I really felt sorry for King David. He has been through an amazing amount of testing, trials and character building as God moulds him into a man of God. A man of God is not done overnight. It takes years, a life time in fact. Like Alan Redpath says, we are dead to sin but sin is never dead to us. We can not sin, but will most certainly sin. David wishes to have the Ark of God in his town. He wants God with him and in him. That is what David is saying here. But, if we want God in us, and we do, then we have to do it His way. God declares His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. Personally I am glad of that.
Lets not be too harsh on David here. Yes, maybe he should have known that the Ark should be carried on the shoulders of men. But would he? I doubt it. He was a shepherd and warrior, not a Levitcal Priest. They should have been the one to advise him of how and when. But, none the less, I like David. Just as soon as he learns the right way, he sets about doing it.
Enough for today. End Quote.
Reverend Phil, our Vicar responded as follows:
Thanks for your comments, Stan. This is a confronting chapter. It confronts me with the holiness of God. God may be our friend but he is not to be trifled with. Its a bit like fire, in fact fire is one of the ways God is spoken of. Fire can be a great friend to us, but also must be respected. Uzzah is only trying to help, or so it seems, but maybe there is more going on. What is needed, I wonder, to re-kindle a sense of the holiness of God in our world today?
His question at the end is highly relevant.
What do you think? If you go to the General Section you can view some more to-ing and fro-ing on this one.
Let me put a question to you dear reader. What is Holiness? For that matter, what does "Holy" mean?
Watch this space for more.
