Monday 16th January 2012 - Wow

I got a surprise today. My good lady wifey was out doing a mobility instruction thingy. That's when her mobility instructor takes her over the bit of ground that she is learning.
The children and myself were to walk to the shops and get some bits and pieces.
In my last post I posted about a letter I wrote to my local member of parliament regarding the whole gay marriage thingy. I never expected to hear back from him. Well, you can imagine my surprise when my mobile phone rang and it was the politician on the other end. he was returning my call and assuring me that he would support heterosexual marriage as being the only model.
It does pay to write to our members of parliament. yes, you may get ignored. But I really do think it is important to vote in all election. You get the politicians you vote for and if you don't vote then you can't complain when they don't follow your wishes.
This " Gays to protest for equal rights at the Australian Open" makes interesting reading. Margaret Court has caused this uproar. Margaret is one of West Australia's greats in the tennis world. She is also a pastor of a church in W.A. She is also opposed to gay marriage. The idea is that protesters want to flood the Australian Open Tennis with a sea of rainbow flags. Seems it's not working. I drive trains down that way. It's held just near Richmond station. Not a rainbow flag in sight. All I saw was Australian flags. Guess that shows what we all think doesn't it?

Saturday 14 January 2012 - A letter to my member of parliament

This is a copy of a letter I wrote to my member of parliament. Oh, and I urge all who read my blog to vote in political elections. And to write to who ever is representing you. They have no idea what you think unless you do. 

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I trust you are well.

As you know same gender marriage has been very much in the news lately. There is a large section of our society who support this and would like the rest of us to go along with their view. If we don’t then we are considered to be homophobic. In Scotland the marriage act has just been re-written giving same gender relationships the same status as heterosexual relationships. However, it seems not all agree. I read this http://www.christian.org.uk/news/former-scottish-tory-leader-dismisses-same-sex-marriage/ article a few minutes ago.

I here quote a section which I think is very relevant:

“Organisations fighting to preserve the traditional definition of marriage believe homosexual groups should not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone and that people should not be intimidated into going along with it because of political correctness.”

I personally believe that those who insist that heterosexuals should allow same sex marriage to be engaging in sexual harassment. They are harassing us until we give in and agree with their view. I recently had a discussion with a work colleague on this matter. As I said to him, if I give him a hard time regarding his sexual preference I am engaging in harassment. Similarly, if he insists that I agree with his sexual relationship, he is harassing me.

My understanding is that you are a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. My Bible tells me that same sex relationships are not on. I take it yours does too. I also don’t know of any religion which allows for same sex relationships, be is homosexual or lesbian.

At some time this is going to come up in our parliament here in Victoria. I would like to think that you would stand up for the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman, no matter what the Liberal Party may decide. I would also like to think you would have the courage to vote against such legislation even if the Liberal party should agree with it. I believe that you represent us the people who voted you in, not the views of the Liberal party. After all, we voted for you, not the Liberal Party.

I believe those engaging in forcing those of us to accept the view and their relations top be guilty of harassment also. They don't have that right. It's also bullying. There are laws in Australia against that.
