This is where my wifey is tonight. This period, from Thursday to Sunday, is the busiest time of the year for the Church choir of St Luke's. The choir sings at all services over Easter.
Today is Maunday Thursday.
Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, and Thursday of Mysteries, is the Christian feast or holy day falling on the Thursday beforeEaster that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
That definition is from here.
Not many denominations celebrate Maundy Thursday. It finishes with the washing of the feet, the last act Jesus did before going to the Garden of Gethsemane. At St Luke's the washing of the feet is done in total silence, then the lights of the church are dimed and every one files out in silence. No one says a word. It is as though they are anticipating something.
Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Now I have no proof of this, but I rather think it was here that the full weight of human sin and deprivation was caste on Him. Can you imagine that. He Who had known no sin is suddenly made to be sin for all of us.
