... to Christmas. It is rather convenient that we now have an extra person distributing advertising leaflet in our area. Some call them "junk" mail. That's also what I call them. They clutter up the letter box leaving little room for anything else.
What is Christmas? That's a good question. For the world it is a big fat "spend fest". It is a time of the year when folks go out and purchase their "friends" and "loved ones" presents they just must have. Of course the retail industry think it is marvellous. Credit cards get "maxed" out, what ever that is. Then, in the lead up to Christmas day, everyone attends the mandatory "office" Christmas "do". The result being a few "sickies" to recover by which time it is Christmas day. Meanwhile, mothers get stressed trying to work out what to by little Johnny and Joan, who have all the latest gadgetry and need no more. Except that Mum doesn't want to appear mean. Meanwhile Dad has a major coronary trying to work out what he will get for "she who must be obeyed".
Christmas day arrives. Mothers who have over worked themselves into a frenzy trying to provide all the food and drinks, now stress more trying to make sure the drinks are cold and everyone has been catered for. Every one opens their gifts, most of which they don't want/get jealous coz they didn't get what they "want", thank all who gave. Christmas dinner time arrives. Everyone does their level best to stuff as much food and drink into their poor overloaded stomachs as possible. And then when that is done, they then proceed to drink themselves stupid.
That is Christmas in that part of the world called "The West". That is not what Christmas is all about.
And, if we are permitted to "celebrate" Christmas, why is it that other "religions" can't have a public holiday on their day of religious celebration what ever that may be.
