Sunday 13th July 2008 It's been a while....

....since I posted. The above photo is of Stephanie endeavouring, unsuccessfully to open a jar of sauce for one of her pasta creations. She is laughing because I am telling her to put a bit of muscle behind it and at the same time bragging about how strong the male gender is! And no, Stephanie couldn't open the jar. Neither could I. I used a jar opener. But the effort Stephanie was putting into it had to be captured on photo.
It's been a while since I posted. A month in fact. I've been busy. You see Stephanie is now in the Choir of St Lukes. This means singing practice every week on Thursday evenings. It also means obtaining the songs in electronic format. Some of the material we can get. For the rest, I type it all into a Word document. One song at a time. There are three books to do, plus the the prayer book, A Prayer Book for Australia, 1995 edition. You could say I will be a bit busy. Just a little bit.
I have made a bit of a discovery. I rather like the 9:15 service on a Sunday Morning at St Lukes. One actually must respond. One must respond if one is to get the best out of it. It is a sung service. The congregation is actively involved, rather than just sitting around. I also like the more traditional hymns. I don't mind contemporary Christian music, however, traditional is my favourite. Some contemporary Christian music is what I call 7/11 music. Seven words sung eleven times in a row. The lyrics can be very shallow. I mean, how many ways can one sing "Jesus I love You"? Eleven?
Generally hymns have some doctrine in them. There is some meat in the pie, or doctrine in the song. And the music does have a melody.
Now that reminds me of my description of some "classic" music. It is going some where, it doesn't quite know where, and has come from some where, it doesn't know when. Actually, I do like some classical music.
How did I get onto that subject? I know; it was hymns.
