1 Kings 3
Ever heard of typology? Well you have now. There are lots of types in the Bible. And certain things/places have a word association of type. They can be symbols. Red, for example, is a associated with blood and sacrifice. Silver with redemtion, gold diety and so on. I think you get the drift of what I am on about now.
OK, that said, places can also have a word association and a type. The one we encounter here in the bigginning of chapter 3 is "Egypt". Egypt is a type of the world. So, where one sees the word "Egypt", Biblical speaking, one can substitute "world". Now in chapter 3 there are 2 things to note.
Firstly, Solomon chooses a bride from Egypt. Never mind the alliance herein spoken of. We are called to come out of the world and its ways. Solomon should have done the same. This is to be his undoing.
For the time being, God overlooks this. just as He does with us when we do something not quite kosher. Secondly, take a look at verse 5. No mention here of verse 1. God gets straight to the heart of the matter. This is not the first time we see this. Go have a look at Exodus 3 verse 1. If you read chapter 2 then you know where Moses is at. Yet God doesn't even mention it. I am amazed at this. However, let me pose a question. Does Christ tell us to go clean ourselves up then come calling on Him. No, most certainly not. Come unto Me and I will give you rest.
"Typology" literally means the study of types.
"Typology" in Christian theology, the interpretation of some characters and stories in the Old Testament as allegories foreshadowing the New Testament.
The End.
Now here I will add the following.
Most would comment on Solomon's prayer on wisdom. It is good I will admit. But when I read the chapter today, that is not what stood out the most to me. And when I write up the reading I write up what hits me the most.
