Tuesday 29th May 2007 Ezekiel 6-7

This is today's Bible reading for St Lukes in Frankston. It's a tough one. I will confess, I know precious little about Old Testament prophecy. A lot of it goes straight over my head. But I like Ezekiel. I mean, imagine this if you will. Here is this fellow. He lies on one side for 390 days then switches and lies on the other for 40 days. Then he cuts of his hair. Burns one third of it after carefully weighing. I wonder how much notice people took of him. I wonder what would happen if one of our church leaders did this today just how much notice we would take of them. We would probably call out the men from the nearest hospital and have him certified.
Ezekiel was speaking to the nation. Our leaders speak to us, or should at least, on behalf of God. Would we, do we heed them?
Let me float this one up there for us all to ponder: We should. They speak for God, to us from Him. Do we take God seriously? We should. Look at what God does to Israel in these 2 chapters. He is giving them fair warning. They have taked items from God's Holy house. Then changed them and made idols to worship. Hey, don't we do the same? What's the difference?
You don't believe me? OK, let me put this one to you. Music was given to us as one form, or way if you please, of expressing our love for God and to God. Right? Yes, I hear you say. But hang on a minute. Does God like what we sing and how we sing it? What is the motive? Do we mean what we sing? Is it from the heart? Who is being pleased? God? or is it us? See what I mean?
